Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you're wondering about health insurance.

Can't find your question? Reach out, I'm happy to talk it through.

No. My services are completely free to you, I'm paid by the insurance carrier, not by you, and the price of your plan is the same whether you enroll through me or directly with a carrier.
A carrier's representative can only sell you their own plans. As an independent agent, I compare plans across multiple carriers so you can see the full picture and choose what's actually best for you.
You can enroll during annual Open Enrollment (typically November–January), or any time of year through a Special Enrollment Period if you've had a qualifying life event, job loss, marriage, divorce, a move, or turning 26. Private and short-term plans are available year-round.
You may still qualify for a Special Enrollment Period depending on your situation. If not, short-term or private health insurance can provide coverage until the next Open Enrollment window.
Marketplace (ACA) plans may qualify for premium tax credits based on your income. Private plans are purchased directly from a carrier, are available year-round, and don't offer subsidies but may offer more flexibility.
Eligibility is based mainly on household income relative to the Federal Poverty Level and household size. Try our free subsidy estimator, or I can calculate your exact number.
A lower deductible usually means a higher monthly premium but less cost when you use care, good if you expect frequent visits. A higher deductible means a lower premium but more upfront cost, good if you're generally healthy and want to save monthly. I'll help you weigh the trade-off based on your situation.
A PPO offers flexibility to see any provider, often without a referral, usually at a higher cost. An HMO requires you to use a specific network and get referrals for specialists, usually at a lower cost. An EPO is similar to an HMO but typically doesn't require referrals, it just limits you to an in-network provider list.
It depends on the plan's network. I'll check whether your preferred doctors and specialists are in-network before you enroll.
Yes, self-employed clients are one of the groups I help most often, including guidance on subsidies, deductible strategy, and potential tax deductions for premiums.
Yes. I help small business owners compare group coverage and individual coverage reimbursement options for themselves and their teams.
Absolutely. I stay available for claims questions, life changes, and renewals, long after your initial enrollment.
